# Quick start

https://instabox.sh/docs/start.md

From nothing to a shell in your own cloud machine.

### One command
```
npx instabox@latest sh
```
It signs you in with a device code, starts a new machine, installs the `instabox` CLI and the instabox agent skills (in `~/.claude/skills` and `~/.agents/skills`), and opens a shell in the machine over SSH. `--no-skills` leaves your skills alone and `--no-cli` skips the CLI; everything else is the same.

### Or step by step
```
curl -fsSL https://api.instabox.sh/install.sh | sh    # install the CLI
instabox login                             # sign in with a device code
instabox create --name dev                 # template agent-browser, the default
instabox ssh dev
```
It prints a page and a code: open the page on any device and enter the code, so it works over SSH too.

### When you are done
```
instabox suspend dev    # pause: files, memory and running processes are kept
instabox resume dev     # carry on where you left off
```

> In the dashboard, **Create machine** on the **Machines** page does what `instabox create` does. Programs, CI jobs and agents use an API key instead of a sign-in: see [Integrate with the SDK](https://instabox.sh/docs/integrate.md) and [API keys and SDK](https://instabox.sh/docs/keys-sdk.md). An agent with no browser and nobody present signs itself up with `instabox login --agent`: [Agent sign-up](https://instabox.sh/docs/agent-auth.md).
